Kenneth L. Barnette

     NEWPORT NEWS, VA- Kenneth Barnette, 65, a Newport News resident since 1980, died on Thursday, March 29, 2018.

     He served for 12 years in the U.S. Navy and continued working with Civil Service for 35 years with the Navy Munitions Command Detachment. Ken attended First Baptist Church Newport News. He loved to listen to Jimmy Buffet, was a ham radio operator and was on the event staff at the Hampton Coliseum.

     Survivors include his wife of 12 years, Carol "Adrian" Barnette; one step-son Josh Wolfe; two brothers and two sisters, Barry Barnette, Mark Barnette, Karen Barnette Dubois, and Lois Bishop; two step-grandsons, Daniel and Bryan; and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by his father, James William Barnette, step-son, Bryan Wolfe and a brother Alan Barnette.

     A funeral service will be held at 7 PM Monday, April 2, 2018 at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home in Newport News. Visitation will follow the service.

     There has been a change to the funeral services details in Danville. The funeral will now be held at the Fischer Funeral Home in Danville at 11:00 a.m., with burial to follow in Workman Cemetery. Visitation is from 10:00 a.m. until service time. www.fischerfuneralhome.com
