Charles "Sonny" Fox Obituary

Danville – Charles “Sonny” Fox, 87, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2024.

Sonny was born in New Castle on December 7, 1936 to the late Paul and Elizabeth (Hammontree) Fox. He served in the U.S Army from 1959 to 1962, and married Lois Boling on October 10,1969. She preceded him in death on October 21, 2022. Together they opened the Devils Den in Danville in 1986, which they operated for many years. After Lois retired, they became snowbirds and went to Florida for 10 years where they met some of the greatest friends of their lives. Sonny was a member of the St. Luke Catholic Church in Danville, where he was also involved with the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed his Wednesday morning breakfast every week, and loved playing golf with his three buddies, Dick Gardner, Bob Crise, and Roy Strouse.  

He is survived by his two sons, Gary (Terry) Fox of Loudonville, CMSgt Barry (Deana) Fox of Rose Hill, KS; four daughters, Suzanne (Eric Murnieks) Springer of McCormick, SC, Shelley (Todd Bender) Ansel of Danville, Toni (Scott Yarman) Blubaugh of Howard and Tia (Lincoln) Ball of Howard; 14 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren, sister, Beverly (Charles) Carrier of Galion; and several nieces and nephews

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Fox; daughter, Barby Dee (Fox) Ludwig; son-in-law, Shawn Blubaugh; grandson Jacob Ludwig; and great granddaughter, Emma Fox.

A funeral Mass will take place at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 11, at the St. Luke Church in Danville. Rev. Father Kengnjoh Michael Mbuwirus will officiate. Visitation will begin an hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Workman Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the Knox County Veterans Council Honor Guard.
