Donald Royle Obituary

WARSAW- Donald Howard Royle, 79, died Sunday, April 7, 2024 at his residence.

He was born June 9, 1944 in Grove City, PA to the late Donald Wesley and Margaret Ellen (Ruley) Royle. He was a graduate of Penn State University. He retired from Penn Power, and later spent 15 years as a KOA Ambassador at the Andover Pymatuning TRA/KOA Campground.

Don was a fireman for the Grove City, PA Fire Department, and volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America, Relay for Life of Mercer Co., and the Jaycee’s. He was a poll worker volunteer for several elections, and helped out at Specialized Treatman Services of Mercer. He volunteered for the Coshocton Co. Miracle on Wheels bicycle giveaway in 2022. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.

He is survived by his wife, Sonja L. Royle of Warsaw, whom he married Dec. 11, 2022. His family then consisted of step-daughters, Tonya Holskey of Warsaw, Danielle Eaches of Warsaw, and Beth (Randy) Snyder of Zanesville; and a step-son, Jim (Amanda) Holskey of Coshocton. They shared twelve grandchildren, and four great-granddaughters. The special twinkle in Poppy’s eyes were Jim’s daughters, Delilah & Savannah, who called him “Poppy”. They were his “energizer buddies”. Don & Sonja had a fur baby, “Sadie Wren”, a mini Berniedoodle.

His former wife Carol and their children were Scott Royle of North Carolina, Todd Royle of Colorado, Michelle Royle of New York, and Lori (Jim) Moore of Hubbard. They have eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by special friends that were as close to him as family from the Andover/Pymatuning TRA/KOA Campground.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a former wife, Linda Rae Royle, to whom he was married from 2003-2021; his siblings; and a fur baby “Gabby”, a King Charles Cavalier.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date at Pymatuning Lake in Pymatuning, PA. Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw is assisting his family with arrangements. www.fischerfuneralhome.com
