Phillip Roach Obituary

 

 

          HOWARD- Phillip Leonard Roach, 79, died Saturday, February 9, 2019 at Country Court Nursing Home in Mt. Vernon, OH. 

          Phil was born Dec 8, 1939 in Logan, OH to Leonard and Fannie (Koontz) Roach.  He enlisted in the US Marine Corps Feb 7, 1957 and was discharged Jan 5, 1960, serving during the Korean Conflict and always proud to have served as a marine.

          In 1964 he married Laura Jean Yates, who survives him.  Phil was a man of diversity and worked in several different trades.  His favorite work involved the outdoors and included building electrical towers, working with oil production crews, working for Lancaster Glass, and for E-One in Ocala, FL building emergency vehicles, expediter for Sanibel Property Management, and owning and operating his lawn and landscape business in Punta Gorda, FL.

          Phil was an avid NASCAR fan, admiring Bill Elliott the most.  He was a frequent trader of vehicles and enjoyed making them uniquely special.  He loved to go camping, fishing and hunting and enjoyed playing poker and listening to his music.  He enjoyed sharing his own childhood memories with family, relating stories about his parents and about his early hunting days as a young man. 

          In 1983 Phil married Susan (Bowersock) Roach who survives him, as do two sons, Phil (Brandy) Roach of Mt. Vernon, and Mike (Misty) Roach of Logan; a daughter, Tracey (Rusty) Linger of Buckeye Lake; step daughters, Bridget (James) Pettit of Granada, MS, and Mary (Bill) Walters of Galion; a step-son, Michael Ratigan of San Diego, CA; grandchildren, Justin Roach, Tim Dye, Nevada Linger, Alexis (Kyler) Jacks, Kalie Roach, Alex Schutt, Casey Schutt, Leah Pettit, Mason Pettit, Gage Walters and Keegan Walters; great-grandchildren, Jeremy Dye and Ezra Jacks also survive him, as do sisters Margaret (Bob) Lowery, Grace (Bayu) Sulaiman, and Sue (Ritchie) Berry, and brother Rick (Pam) Roach; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Phil is also survived by special friends Paul Grimm and Marion Riggs of Logan, Fred Romeo of Youngstown and Ronnie Penrod of Seminole. 

          Besides his parents he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Evelyn; brothers, John and Ralph William, and by Karen Browning.

          A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2019 at the Fischer Funeral Home in Danville, with Deacon Tim Birie officiating. Burial of cremated remains will follow in St. Luke Cemetery, with military rites performed by the Knox Co. Joint Veterans Council Honor Guard.
