Richard D. Colopy

  Danville – Richard D. “Dick” Colopy, 87, passed away on Tuesday August 8, 2017 at the Ohio Eastern Star Home in Mount Vernon.

                He was born in Danville on August 16, 1929 to the late Donald and Florence (Blanchard) Colopy, and was a lifetime resident of Knox County. He served in the Army as a Platoon Leader for two years and was one of only two soldiers in his platoon who returned home from the Korean War. He was awarded a Purple Heart for his service.

                He spent his whole life working on the family dairy farm, with his wife at his side for over 60 years. He loved spending time with his family and working the farm with his grandsons. He was also a member of the St. Luke Catholic Church and the Danville American Legion Post #650.

                He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Twila B. (Ferenbaugh) Colopy, whom he married November 28, 1951, his daughter, Donna (Doug) Beckley of Walhonding, daughter-in-law, Michelle (Bill) Colopy Lake of Danville, grandchildren; Mike (Amy) Colopy, Kristin (Matt) Proper, and Eric Colopy all of Danville, Ashley (Timothy) Clutter of Gambier, and Nick (Meagan) Beckley of Walhonding, great grandchildren; Ella, Carson, and Parker Proper, Makayla (Bryant Blubaugh), Blake, and Easton Colopy, Emma, Sarah, and Leah Clutter, Ethan and Elliot Morgan, and Carly Beckley, a great-great grandchild, Arya Blubaugh, 3 sisters; Florence Heldenbrand of Howard, Margie Samples, and Marilyn Arnold of Danville, and 2 brothers; Robert and Joseph Colopy, both of Fredericktown.

                In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Clarence R. Colopy, a brother, Donald Colopy, and 2 sisters; Barbara Colopy, and Regina Randall.

                A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 11 at the St. Luke Church in Danville. Burial, with Military Honors conducted by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council, will follow in St. Luke Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 6-8 at the church Thursday night.
