DANVILLE- James Arthur Hashman, 72, died Sunday, January 2, 2011 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
He was born Oct. 7, 1938 in Danville to the late Arthur and Evelyn (Stull) Hashman.
He served in the Ohio National Guard, and he was the Danville barber since 1964, still barbering full-time at the time of his accident. He was a member of the North Bend Church of the Brethren, and an Avid Ohio State fan. He loved going to Mellor's Restaurant in Loudonville, Spearman's Restaurant in Millwood, and the Southside Diner in Mt. Vernon. He was always a favorite with the servers, who loved calling him by his nickname, "Mickey". He was a huge history buff, and traveled many miles and took many pictures of Civil War cemeteries. He especially loved going to Gettysburg, PA. He was also a member of the Ohio Gun Collectors, the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare, the Civil War Preservation Trust, AARP, the Ohio Society of Military Preservation, Inc., the Surratt Society, the Alliance for Retired Americans, American Legion, Knox Co. Historical Society, Greenlawn Cemetery Foundation, Inc., the Civil War Roundtable, Ohio Barbers Association, the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and First Knox Freedom Years, and the National Whitetail Deer Education Foundation.
Jim is survived by his brother, Larry (Paula) Hashman of Danville, his sister, Joyce Wenger of Danville, his loving and faithful cat, "Sweet Cheeks", two nieces, Angela (Joe) Hawk, and Lori (Dave) Metcalf, and a nephew, Larry II (Shanon) Hashman, all of Mt. Vernon, several great nieces and nephews, and step-nieces, nephews, and step-great-nieces & nephews of McArthur, and an Uncle, Bob (Jane) Hashman of Newcomerstown.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Hashman on June 28, 2005, and Evelyn Hashman on May 7, 2004.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011 at the Fischer Funeral Home in Danville with Father Homer Blubaugh officiating. Burial will follow in Workman Cemetery, with graveside military rites performed by the Knox Co. Joint Veterans Council. Calling hours are from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
