Danville - Alexander D. Lindsay, 92, died Sunday September 15, 2013 at the Knox Community Hospital.
He was born June 5, 1921 in Mineral City to the late Alexander L. and Sarah (Fiddler) Lindsay. On July 23, 1944, he was married to Lillian L. Meder. She preceded him in death on December 2, 1996. He was a WWII Veteran, serving in the Army from 1942-1946. His tour of duty included the Battle of the Bulge, and most of Europe, including a meeting with the Queen of England.
He had a Masters Degree in education and taught at many area schools. He was also the Principal of Midville, Executive Head at Fresno, Principal at West Lafayette, and Principal and Superintendent at Danville, where he also drove a bus. He was a member of the Danville Grace Brethren Church, Lions Club, and American Legion.
Surviving are his children; Nancy (Clifford) Minard of Danville/Streetsboro, Cheryl Pruett of Ravenna, David (Angela) Lindsay of Broken Arrow, OK, and Dan (Carrie) Lindsay of Huber Heights, adopted daughter, Joanne Potts, 17 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild, brothers; Richard Lindsay of Mineral City, and Paul Lindsay of Minerva, and a sister, Dorothy Edwards of Mineral City.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was pre deceased by 2 brothers; Robert and James Lindsay, and 2 sisters; Jane Secrest, and Joan Stewart.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday September 21 at the Fischer Funeral Home in Danville. Pastors Dennis Eggerton and Al Hockley will officiate. Burial will follow in Workman Cemetery, with military honors by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council. Calling hours will be from 5-7 Friday and one hour prior to the service.
