Anna Zimelis

May 14, 1919 — February 26, 2016

Danville - Anna Zimelis, 96, passed away peacefully at her residence on February 26, surrounded by her family following a brief illness.

Anna was born on May 14, 1919 in a small town in Ukraine and was a faithful member of the St. Luke Catholic Church in Danville.

She met her husband, Joseph, at a work camp in Germany. They married after WWII, and had the first two of five children. The family immigrated to America in February of 1951 with the help of a Catholic organization, and proceeded to have three more children. She spent over 15 years working on turkey farms and in turkey dressing plants in Danville, and became a well loved member of her community.

Anna loved the time she spent with her friends and family. She also enjoyed gardening and traveling, and she always made sure no one left her house hungry. She always loved her country that she would later call home, and was made a proud American citizen on May 10, 2012.

She is survived by her children; Zena (Ed) Tickle, and Jane Crooks both of Mount Vernon, Joe (Pam) Zimelis, and Oscar (Patti) Zimelis both of Danville, grandchildren; Lisa Tickle (Louai Alsamkari), Ed Tickle, Jr. (Nicole McNichols), Jessica (Dr. Tibor) Warganich, Samantha, Katlyn, and John Zimelis, and Brian and Erica Boeshart, and great grandchildren: Jason Zimelis, Maddie Pope, Joey Tickle, Aiden Zimelis, Zoey Warganich, Ava White, Cole Warganich, and Brantley Zimelis.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her son, Walter “Wally” Zimelis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday March 1, 2016 at the St. Luke Catholic Church in Danville. Father Homer Blubaugh will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Luke Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 6-8 Monday evening at the Fischer Funeral Home in Danville.
