Bertha Fortney

Howard - On March 19, 2019 Bertha Regina Fortney, loving mother, grandmother and sister, passed away peacefully at Country Club Retirement Center. Bertha was born December 17, 1924 in Marlinton, West Virginia to Arthur and Nancy McFadden. She was a loving mother and caregiver. She enjoyed sewing blankets for all her many grandchildren. Known as “Grandma Birthday,” she never missed sending birthday cards. She treasured her orchids and loved spending time in her garden. Her family appreciated spending time around her kitchen table listening to her stories. She was an avid Elvis fan and enjoyed rooting for the EK Bulldogs and the West Virginia Mountaineers. She was a member of the Millwood Church of Christ. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Clifford C. Campbell ,  second husband Orville B. Fortney, her son Richard McFadden, granddaughter, Kelly Jo Flood, great granddaughter McKenzie, daughters- in–law Rebecca McFadden, Peg Updike, Carlanna Campbell, and brothers Harlan, Ashford, Walter, Arnel, Robert, French and sister Lily Fortney. She is survived by her children, Carmel (Diane) McFadden of Howard, Larry Campbell of Howard, Gary (Darlene) Campbell of Danville and Jo Ann (Randy) Buckingham of Howard. Also, stepchildren Ruth Lambert, Betty (Ed) Booth, Linda (William) Fugate, Fred (Wanda ) Fortney, and Robert ( Patty) Fortney, 26 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandson, a sister Mary Ellen McDonald of Howard, and a brother Keith (Norma) Hammons of Howard. Calling hours will be Saturday, March 23, 2019 from 10-11:30 a.m. with services immediately following at the Millwood Church of Christ, 11961 Bridge Street. Evangelist Dave Jones will be officiating. Interment will be at the Campbell cemetery on SR 229 in Butler Township following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Millwood Church of Christ Building Fund. The Fischer Funeral Home in Danville is handling arrangements.
