Warsaw - Betty Jean "Big Grandma" Haines, 67, of Warsaw joined her parents and brother in Heaven on January 4, 2009. She passed onto Eternity from the Ohio State University Medical Center following an extended illness.


She was born in Warsaw, OH on November 26, 1941 to the late Arthur William and Mae Odelva (Ridenbaugh) Hoberg. Betty was a 1959 graduate of Warsaw High School. In the same year, she became the Secretary of the Warsaw High School later becoming Warsaw Elementary School; a position she held for 33 years. She was currently the Fiscal Officer for the Tiverton Township. Betty was a registered Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and ran with the Warsaw Emergency Squad during the late 80's and 90's. She previously was a member of the Coshocton County Farm Bureau and served as a Safety Director. She was a member of the Brinkhaven Church of Christ and attended the Wolf Creek Baptist Church. Betty was also a member of the Tiverton Grange.


Betty married Albert Haines on December 26, 1963 who survives.

Betty will always be remembered for her love of people. There was not a person that she would not take time to talk to. She enjoyed being the "mother" of many Warsaw Elementary School children. She always wanted to be called "Betty" and not "Mrs. Haines. Betty had a great love of animals. She helped nurse many animals back to health from a litter of little pigs to a baby calf to many cats and dogs. Animals gave her a great amount of pleasure and enjoyment. She thoroughly enjoyed all of God's Creation and saw it daily on the farm that she and her family built since 1968.


She was preceded in death by her parents and oldest brother, Jerry, nephew Lunda Lee Hoberg Jr., and many aunts and uncles.

Surviving in addition to her husband of 45 years is son, Lynn Hoberg (Pastor Deb) Haines of Newark and family including granddaughter Gabriella "Gabi" MaeLynn Haines; step granddaughter, Kathy (DJ) Luna of Heath and family including step grandsons, Brandon, Bradon, Collyn, and Kamden; daughter, Sallie (Rusty) Gates of Warsaw. Also surviving is brother Lunda Lee Sr. (Patty) of Newark and family including nephew James Allen (Shelly) Hoberg; twin great nephews, Ryan Allen and Cody James of Newark; great nephews James Jr., Dustin Lee, and Daniel Arthur Hoberg all of Newark; and niece Patty Sue (John D.) Hineman of Tipton, MO; great nieces Morgan and Sidney and great nephew, Tyler. She is also survived by an aunt, Pearl Crise of Newark. Special son, Bernie Morrison of Warsaw. She also had her special companions, TZ, Cracker, Butch, and Bob that kept her so much company.


Calling hours will be on Tuesday, Jan.6, 2009 from 5-8 P.M. at the Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home with Pastors Mike Rodgers and Galen Honabarger officiating.
