Dresden- Betty Jean (Lonsinger) Whelan, 86, of 4970 Raiders Rd., died at her home with her loving family at her side on Monday, Sept. 28, 2009.
She was born May 13, 1923 in Walhonding to the late F. Raymond and Gertrude (Potes) Lonsinger. She married Charles William Whelan on April 28, 1971, who preceded her in death on May 6, 1987. She retired from Southern Bell of Florida after 36 years of service as a switchboard operator. She was a member of the American Legion Post #399 Women's Auxiliary in Dresden. She attended the Coshocton Senior Center where she enjoyed food and friendship. She also enjoyed crochet and crafts. She was a loving mother and grandmother who did all she could to help her family out.
She is survived by a daughter, Charline Whyde of Frazeysburg, two grandsons; Billy (Shela) Whyde of Frazeysburg, and Bobby (Donna) Whyde of Dresden, a granddaughter, Cindy (Tory) Havens of Frazeysburg, ten grandchildren; Kayla Whyde, Bryce Whyde, Daryan Whyde, Billy Whyde III, Trisha Whyde, Jordyn Ringwalt, Evan Whyde, Casie Prince, Austin Havens, and Morgan Prince, one great-great-granddaughter, Myah May-Marie Alexander, one great-great-grandson on the way, a brother, James (Jeanette) Lonsinger of Walhonding, one special nephew, John of Dayton, several nieces and nephews, and her loving friend & companion, her dog "Peetee".
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by three brothers; her twin, Bernard, Clyde and Gerald Lonsinger, a sister, Maude Ware, and a son-in-law, William L. Whyde, Sr.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009 at the Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw with Rev. Wayne Harman officiating. Interment will follow in Tiverton Cemetery. Visitation is two hours prior to service time.
