Danville – William Edward McDonald, died Friday, April 17, 2015 at his residence.
He was born in Mount Vernon on February 21, 1949 to Edward A. and Mary E. (McFadden) McDonald. He was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and son. He worked at Apple Valley Maintenance for almost 40 years. He also was an auctioneer for 40 years. He did a lot of volunteer auctions, and traveled as far as Missouri and Colorado. He belonged to the Buckskin Bowhunters Club and the Ohio Bowhunters Association, where he was a Master Instructor in bowhunting education.
Bill was a very proud Marine. He served from 1969 to 1975, including 13 months in the Vietnam Conflict. He graduated 46 years ago this week from Parris Island. Besides his Corp., he loved his Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Browns. His prized possession though was his beloved wife of 44 years, Loney, who he lost on July 12, 2012. They were married March 3, 1968. Their motto was always “Semper Fi”, meaning always faithful.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his father, Ed McDonald.
He is survived by his daughters; B.J. (Jack) Oyster of Millersburg, and Christel McDonald (Mike Parkhill) of Danville, grandchildren; Jacolyne and Austin Oyster,his mother, Mary McDonald of Howard, siblings; Mike (Cheryle) McDonald and Jeff (Amy) McDonald, all of Howard and Doug (Pam) McDonald of Danville, Judy (Ron) Hess of Howard, and Cheryl “Cheri” (Alan) Fry of Danville, and many nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at the Fischer Funeral Home in Danville. Gene Lilly will officiate, and Military Honors will be performed by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council. Calling hours will be from 5:00 p.m. until service time. www.fischerfuneralhome.com
