Bruce Douglas Schaefer

September 22, 1944 — October 6, 2010

WARSAW - Bruce Douglas Schaefer, 66, of Cherry Street passed away at his home Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at 2:13 p.m. after a year long battle with cancer.

He was born Sept. 22, 1944 in Newark, NJ to the late Frederick F. and Eleanor E. (March) Schaefer.

Bruce was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving from December 1963 to December 1967. On July 23, 1969 he graduated from the New Jersey State Police Academy and was a patrolman in Bernards Township, NJ until 1972 when he moved to Ohio. He also worked at Youngstown Steel Door in Youngstown, OH for five years, Westinghouse in Randolph, NJ for five years, and Kraft Foods in Coshocton for 19 years. He retired in 2007.

On April 21, 1968 he married Marlene (Boyd) Schaefer, who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Sgt. Major Doug (Karla) Schaefer, (stationed in Afganistan) of Cam Le Jeune, NC. Bill and Bob Schaefer of Warsaw. Three granddaughters, Brittany of Keene, Alaina & Lyla of Camp Le June, NC. A niece & nephews, Julie, Richard, & Jeff Schaefer all of Mendham, NJ. And his faithful companion, Lacy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Frederick M. Schaefer and his mother & father-in-law Nora & Charles Boyd of Rome, OH.

A celebration of Bruce's life will be held Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw with Pastor Mark Granger officiating. Burial will be in the Valley View Cemetey at Warsaw with graveside military services conducted by the Coshocton County Joint Veterans Council. Visitation is Tuesday, October 12, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Coshocton County - envelopes are available at the funeral home.
