DANVILLE- Carmen E. (Hinger) Rice, 83, of Nashville Rd., died Wednesday Jan. 9, 2013 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
She was born June 27, 1929 in Mt. Vernon to the late George and Dorma (Biggs) Hinger. She was a 1947 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School, the Matron of the Knox Co. Jail from 1965-1969, and the Tax Administrator for the Village of Danville for over 20 years. She was a Girl Scout Troop Leader, and a charter member of Chapter Y of the Goldwing Road Riders Association, riding in all 48 contiguous states and every Canadian province except Newfoundland. She was a member of the Danville Church of Christ.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, G. Eugene Rice of Danville, whom she married May 6, 1949. Also surviving is a daughter, Marcia Rice of Mt. Vernon, a son, Michael (Nancy) Rice of Danville, a granddaughter, Tara Rice of Lancaster, a sister, Donna (Wayne) Francis of Marietta, and a sister-in-law, Mary Sue Dawson of Howard.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, George Hinger, a sister and her husband, Elizabeth & Herbert Horn, her father-in-law & mother-in-law, Robert & Dorothy Rice, and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Dawson.
Per Carmen's wishes, there will be no calling hours. Following a private family viewing, the public is invited to a graveside service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Saturday January 12, 2013 at Workman Cemetery in Danville. Stan Ratliff will officiate.
