Carmel, IN – Edna Carol (Grassbaugh) Kixmiller, 84, passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.

Carol was born on December 25, 1940, at Mercy Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Ohio.  She was one of four children of the late Olive (Miller) and Clarence Grassbaugh.

She Graduated from St. Vincent de Paul High School in 1958 and from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in 1961.  She started her nursing career in New York City as a nurse in a prison ward at Bellevue Hospital and retired in a somewhat more peaceful setting after many years of service at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Carol was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, niece and cousin who loved to spend time with her family.  In her retirement years she took up pottery making in a serious way, spending day after day sculpting clay and “throwing” pots on her wheel in her home basement studio.

Carol is survived by her husband, Robert Kixmiller, of Carmel, Indiana, to whom she was married for 32 years, by three children, Mark (Jill) Swain of Columbus, Indiana, David (Apryle) Swain of Greenwood, Indiana, and Kristen (Logan) Desautels of Troy, Ohio, by two step-sons, David (Michelle) Kixmiller of Franklin, Tennessee and Thomas (Tricia) Kixmiller of Greencastle, Indiana, and by seven grandchildren, Jackson Swain, Luke Swain, Sawyer Swain,  Shelby Swain, Monet Desautels, Joelle Desautels and Martin Desautels.  She is also survived by a brother, Mark Grassbaugh, of Marion, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her brothers Donald “Donnie” Grassbaugh of Phoenix, Arizona, and Dale Grassbaugh of Howard, Ohio.

A Funeral Mass will take place at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 26, at the St. Luke Catholic Church, 307 N. Market St. Danville, OH. Father Hommer Blubaugh will officiate, with Father Morris concelebrating. Visitation will take place from 10:00 until service time at the church.

Memorial donations are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org.
