MARTINSBURG - Charles Allen Bower, 76, of Martinsburg died Wednesday, May 7, 2025 in the Emergency Room of Knox Community Hospital.
He was born November 9, 1948 in Mount Vernon to the late Howard and Beatrice Eileen (Conrad) Bower.
Raised in the Danville area, Charlie was a 1966 graduate of Danville High School where he was valedictorian of his class. He graduated from Kent State University in 1970 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Education. He was a member and elder of the Martinsburg Church of Christ. He was a retired school teacher having taught Jr. High Math for 30 years with the North Fork Local Schools retiring in 2000. Charlie and his wife Barb, were inducted into the North Fork Hall of Honors together in August 2023. He was a lifetime member of the NRA and National Muzzleloader Rifle Association. He enjoyed shooting black powder rifles and clay pigeons.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Barbara (Hays) Bower, whom he married March 22, 1986. Also surviving is a daughter, Andrea (Nate) Staats of Danville. Three grandchildren, Emmy Lou, Charlie, & Bailey Staats. A sister, Susan (Tom) Myers of Wapakoneta. Nephews, Nathan & Phillip Myers of Columbus. Sister-in-law, Beverly Frye of Martinsburg. Niece, Krystle (Eric) Doup of Mount Vernon, and great nieces & nephew, Tenley, Hays, & Blaine Doup.
A funeral service will be held, Tuesday, May 13, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at the Martinsburg Church of Christ with Jason Jackson & Ken Springer officiating. Burial will follow in the Union Grove Cemetery at Gambier. Visitation is Monday, May 12, 2025 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the church.
