Charles Edwin Moore

December 29, 1933 — October 12, 2010

Charles Edwin "Ed" Moore, lifetime resident of Pike Township, Coshocton County, Ohio, died October 12, 2010 at the Extended Care Unit of the Coshocton Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born December 29, 1933 in Coshocton to the late David Samuel and Mary Beatrice (South) Moore. He was a 1952 graduate of Union High School and attended The Ohio State University and Arizona State University. He was a member of Nellie Chapel United Methodist Church, Wakatomica Masonic Lodge and the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation. He was the leader of the West Carlisle Cemetery Association and was a Pike Township Trustee for 27 years, active in the county and state Township Associations as well.

Ed served on the Union and River View School Boards during the consolidation of the district and building of River View High School. He supported the purchase of the land for the building and insisted upon space for a school farm and expansion. He was a member of the FFA Alumni and an Honorary Chapter Farmer.

Most of all, Ed was a farmer his entire life and took great pride in his farm and livestock. At one time, he and his family had the largest dairy farm in Coshocton County and enjoyed having visitors and tours, as well as hosting many foreign visitors. He was supportive of his wife, Alice, as she spent 20 years serving and promoting the local, state and national dairy industries. In 1994, the farm was named the Ohio Century Farm of the Year, having been in the Moore family for six generations.

Survivors include his wife, Alice Sharples Moore, who he married December 6, 1959; daughter, Nancy Moore of Columbus; and sons, David, of the farm, and Robert and his wife Kelly of Delaware, Ohio. He is also survived by one granddaughter, Madelyn "Maddie" Moore of Delaware and a sister, Margaret "Peggy" Moore of Cincinnati, two sisters-in-law Mary Reese and Dorothy (Warren) Lapp of Coshocton. In addition, to his parents, he was preceded in death by a special aunt, Duna Moore Thomas of Fresno.

Visitation will be held Thursday, October 14, 2010 from 7-9 p.m. at the Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw. Graveside services will be held Friday, 11:00 a.m., October 15, 2010 at the West Carlisle Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the West Carlisle Cemetery Association, c/o Edith Fairall, 15792 CR 80, Frazeysburg, Ohio 43822.
