Mount Vernon- Cleo Mae Kunkel, 100, of the Country Club Retirement Campus, died Saturday April 24, 2010 at the Knox Community Hospital Emergency Room.
She was born March 30, 1910 in Union Twp. to the late Grover Cleveland and Bertha (Lease) Stull. She married Blaine Burl Kunkel on June 18, 1927, who preceded her in death on June 11, 1982. She was a homemaker and assisted with farm work, including milking cows. She also worked a few years at the Workman Turkey Processing Plant. She was an avid quilt maker, and enjoyed cooking for her family. She had become quite the poet in the last few years, including writing numerous poems about her age.
She is survived by her daughter, Jody (Bill) Heaton of Howard, three granddaughters; Becky (Tony) Roddy of Walhonding, Sharon Ratai of Howard, and Nancy (Gary) Weaver of Obetz, seven great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, one expected great-great-grandson, a sister, June Wenger of Danville, several nieces and nephews, and a sister-in-law, Eldora Stull of Danville.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by two granddaughters; Diane Waite & Laura Mills, three brothers; Paul, Carl, and Robert Stull, and three sisters; Edna Simmons, Jane Hashman, and Ethel Heaton.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at the Fischer Funeral Home in Danville with Rev. Lee Cubie officiating. Interment will follow in Bunker Hill Cemetery near Butler. Calling hours are from 9:30-11:00 prior to the service.
