Cosmas Smith

DANVILLE- Cosmas Benedict Smith, 91, passed away Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Sycamore Run Nursing Home in Millersburg, not coincidentally just minutes after the Cleveland Indians blew a 3-1 lead in the World Series.
He was born March 19, 1925 in Danville to the late John Jacob Lamy Smith & Mary Vesta (Durbin) Smith. He was a 1943 graduate of Danville High School, and served in the US Army from 1944-1946. He married Shelba Jean (Harrod) Smith on Feb. 28, 1962, who preceded him in death on Sept. 22, 2012. He enjoyed farming and bragging about his children. He was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians & Browns, as well as the Ohio State Buckeyes.
He is survived by three sons, W. Morgan (Tammy) Givens of Howard, Jimmy (Terri) Smith of Kingman, AZ, and David (Linda) Smith of Danville; four daughters, Sara Sapp of Reynoldsburg, Rose (Jim) Pitsenberger of Howard, Pearl (Bob) Purdum of Mt. Liberty, and Melissa Smith of Blacklick; three grandsons, Jason Sapp, Frankie Espinosa, and Thor Pitsenberger; nine granddaughters, Jill Lambes, JoAnne Booth, Tracy Givens-Christie, Robyn Sapp, Stacy Rocha, Ashly Sers, Breana Pitsenberger, Amber Pitsenberger, and Heidi Purdum, and 23 great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by six siblings, Raymond Smith, Mary Smith, Margaret Chadil, Virgil Smith, John Smith, and Theodore Smith.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 7, 2016 at the St. Luke Catholic Church in Danville, with Father Homer Blubaugh officiating. Burial will follow in St. Luke Cemetery, with military graveside rites performed by the Knox Co. Veterans Honor Guard. Calling hours will be held at the Fischer Funeral Home in Danville on Sunday, Nov. 6th from 4-6 p.m., with a wake service at 5:45 p.m. www.fischerfuneralhome.com
