Danville - David Lyle Howell, 58, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday Morning, May 20, 2015, at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
Dave was born on May 8, 1957 in Wheeling, WV to Floyd and Lucille (Hughes) Howell. He was a 1975 graduate of Lakeland High School in Freeport. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for R&F Coal in Cadiz for 15 years and farmed following graduation. He married Lora K. Wornstaff in 1989, when they purchased the farm of their dreams in Danville, OH.
He was an avid supporter of the Ohio FFA. He loved being outdoors working the land. He was rural "Mailman Dave" for 20 years with the post office. He is a member of the Freeport Chapter of the Ohio Masonic Lodge, the Ohio Sheep Improvement Association, and Ohio Farm Bureau.
The only thing Dave loved more than the land and livestock was his family. He lived through his children. From watching his daughter be a top 20 student at The Ohio State University, to teaching his son how to hunt, they were his life, and he instilled the love for the family farm in both of them. He and Lora were named Ohio Farm Bureau's "Outstanding Farm Couple of the Year" in 1990, and even in their busy schedule, they always found time to spend together.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Lora Howell, children Linsey & Justin, a brother, Clark Howell, nephews Kevin (Shawnee), and Dale Arbaugh, and Jesse Howell, and nieces Michelle (Vinka) Burg, and Jennifer Howell - Morris.
He was preceded in Death by his parents, Floyd & Lucille Howell, sister Phyllis Vinka.
A graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 24 in Wesley Chapel Cemetery. Pastor Patrick Bailey will officiate. Calling hours will be held at the Fischer Funeral Home in Danville from Noon - 3:00 prior to the service. www.fischerfuneralhome.com
