Mount Vernon – D. Fred Bartok, age 89, formerly of Millwood, passed away on Thursday December 5, 2024 at the Country Club Rehabilitation Campus in Mount Vernon.
He was born in Danville on December 24, 1934 to the late Steve and Grace (Honaker) Bartok. After graduating high school, Fred served in the United States Army. He retired from Conrail after many years, and a member of the St. Luke Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus in Danville.
He is survived by his daughter, Vicki (Mark) McMahon; sons, Donald E. Bartok, and David (Ashley) Bartok; 10 grandchildren, Dustin, Nathan, Kyle, Macee, Meggan, Danielle, Eric, Tessa, Brookelyn, and Dakota; many great grandchildren; and his former daughter-in-law, Tamara.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Bartok; and wife, Sheila Marie (Durbin) Bartok.
A funeral mass will be held at the St. Luke church, 307 N. Market St., at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday December 10 . (There was an error published previously with the incorrect date) . The Very Reverend Father Mark Hammond will officiate. Burial, with graveside military honors from the Knox County Veterans Council Honor Guard, will follow in St. Luke Cemetery. Calling hours will be held at the Fischer Funeral Home in Danville on Monday evening from 5-7:00.
