Donald "Doc" Fry

January 4, 1932 — November 25, 2025

Massillon, OH

MASSILLON- Donald “Doc” Fry, 93, formerly of Coshocton, passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at Danbury in Massillon.

He was born Jan. 4, 1932 in Coshocton Hospital to the late Wilbur "Dean" and Leora "Marie" (Bown) Fry, the second of four sons. He graduated from Roscoe High School in 1950. After high school, he worked at Wright's Pop Bottle works until he entered the United States Navy in 1951 where he served for 4 years. Upon completion of his tour in 1955, he attended The Ohio State University, upon graduating he began teaching at Conesville School. Later he taught at Roscoe Three Rivers and finally at River View Jr. High School. During his career, he completed his Master's Degree at Antioch College. He also completed advanced work in Geography at OSU Columbus and earth science in Texas.

He married the love of his life, Delsie (Lane) Fry on June 8, 1956. They enjoyed 69 years of marriage, and together had five children: Steve (Jeanette) Fry, David (Tina) Fry, Jeffrey (Georgia) Fry, Lynn (Everett) Crosby, and Thomas (Kat) Fry. He has nine grandchildren: Allison Fry, Hayden Fry, Nicole Arnold, Caleb Fry, Matthew Crosby, David Crosby, Elizabeth Crosby, Iris Fry, and Rex Fry. He has six great-grandchildren: Christopher Stitzer, Jayden Arnold, Keely Arnold, Edmund Crosby, Edsel Crosby and Edlee Crosby. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Betty Fry.

Doc was a lifetime member of Roscoe United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Phi Chi Sunday School Class. He held many positions at the church and enjoyed teaching Sunday School. He enjoyed spending time with his children traveling, camping, having picnics and swimming. He spent his free time gardening, remodeling his house, fishing in Canada with his fellow teachers, and golfing. Doc especially liked to go out to dinner with family and friends. Meeting former students who always greeted him, "Hey, Mr. Fry!" was a great encouragement to him in his later years. He was grateful for his care at Windsorwood Place in Coshocton and Danbury in Massillon.

In addition to his parents, Dean and Marie Fry, he was preceded in death by his brothers (and their wives) Albert “Sonny” (Elsie) Fry, Richard (Pat) Fry, and Tommy Fry; and his stepmother, Esther Fry.
