GREER, SC- Donald Boyd Nixon, age 91, formerly of Warsaw, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 23, 2025 at his home in Greer, South Carolina, surrounded by his family. Born July 17, 1933 in Huntington, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Boyd and Lillian (Smith) Nixon. Don is now reunited with his loving wife, Nancy, a decade after her passing.

Don had an unwavering faith in God. Prior to moving to South Carolina, he was a devoted member of Roscoe United Methodist Church for 28 years. He was also an active member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Lugoff, South Carolina for many years. Don had a strong passion for helping others and was actively engaged in numerous church activities throughout his life.

He was deeply proud to serve his country. From May 1952 to May 1956, he honorably served as a Fire Control Technician in the United States Navy. Beyond his technical duties, he shared his love of music by performing in the Navy Base Band and Navy Base Dance Band and lending his voice to the Navy Choir. His time in the service instilled in him a lifelong sense of duty, discipline, and patriotism - values he carried with him throughout his life.

On September 2, 2014, Don was fortunate to have the opportunity to participate in the Honor Flight for South Carolina, a journey that paid tribute to his service during the Korean War and the service of his fellow veterans.

His life was dedicated to education, shaping the lives of countless students and educators along the way. He earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Marshall University and went on to be a band director and assistant principal before moving to Warsaw, Ohio, in 1968. For 22 years, Mr. Nixon was honored to be the principal of River View High School until his retirement in 1990.

Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, always putting others first. With a heart of gold and a warm, welcoming spirit, he was loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He never met a stranger, and his kindness and generosity touched countless lives. He loved walking through his neighborhood, always taking time to meet new friends and connect with others.

He was an avid reader and card player who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Don had a deep love for music and a passion for riding his motorcycle, but above all, his greatest joy was his family. They were the center of his world, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

His legacy of kindness, devotion, and unwavering love for his family and friends will never be forgotten. Donald B. Nixon will be remembered forever - full of joy, life, and love.
