Eldon M. Edmister

August 15, 1925 — April 14, 2011

HOWARD- Eldon Monroe Edmister, 85, of Coshocton Rd., having recently been immersed in the Lord, went to be with Him on Thursday, April 14, 2011 at Knox Community Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Aug. 15, 1925 in Condit Station to the late Roy and Hazel (Shannon) Edmister. He fought bravely in World War II, receiving both the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He served in Company H of the United States Army, 315th Infantry, Gunner 605. He served time in Normandy, northern France, Rhineland, and central Europe. He was also awarded the Good Conduct medal, a Distinguished Unit badge, the European medal with four Bronze Stars, and the WWII Victory medal.


Eldon owned and operated various local businesses, and worked for Cooper Bessemer for 26 years. He was always willing to help others. He was a volunteer firefighter, and had been in the Auxiliary State Highway Patrol and the American Legion. He was well known for always being cheerful and maintaining a positive attitude.


He is survived by a daughter, Becky Edmister of Charleston, SC, a son, Bill (Debbie) Edmister of Danville, five grandchildren; Colette (Todd) Hazen of Danville, Michele (Dave) Severns of Danville, Garrett Edmister of Loudonville, Jason Jackson of South Carolina, and Zachary Bowman of South Carolina, fourteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, a brother, Roy Edward (Linda) Edmister of Findlay, and a sister, Marilyn Daniels of Montana.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara (Hull) Edmister, who he married on April 23, 1975, and died Dec. 28, 2008, three brothers; John, Robert, & Earl, and a sister, Inez.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at the Fischer Funeral Home in Danville, with Evangelist Gene Lilly officiating. Burial will follow in Workman Cemetery, with graveside military rites performed by the Knox Co. Joint Veterans Council. Friends may call on Monday, April 18th from 6-8 p.m., and until service time on Tuesday.
