DANVILLE- Eric Joseph Winterhalter, age 89, was born June 18th, 1933 in Danville, Ohio. He took his last earthly breath in the same farm house where he was born all those years ago and ended his time to join his Redeemer and mother who were awaiting his arrival.
Eric was raised by his mother, the late Louise Winterhalter, and late aunt & uncle, Marie & Albert Winterhalter. They immigrated from Güttenbach, Germany for a better life in America.
Eric graduated from Danville High School, attended Notre Dame, served in the US Army, and then graduated from Otterbein College with a degree in Economics. During his time in the Army he had a distinguished career in the 3rd Armored Division at the rank of Sergeant. He worked at Buckeye Federal Saving and Loan for 22 years, ending as Vice President of Branch Operations before moving back to the farm. He served as a councilman in Gahanna in the 60s, a Union Township Trustee for 16 years, and the President of the Lions Club in Gahanna and later at the Downtown Columbus Lions Club. Eric enjoyed gardening, golf, newspapers, comedy and western shows, and especially enjoyed being a father and grandfather.
He will be missed by his family who knew they were fully and unconditionally loved. They include his beloved and devoted wife of 50 years, Patricia (Croyle) Winterhalter, whom he married Dec. 18, 1971; and his children, Cheryl (Russell) Halsey, Dan (Tanya) Winterhalter, Mary (Josh) White, and Susan (Jeff) Decker. Also included are the apples of his eye, Eric and Payton Halsey; Elizabeth, Hudson, Lucia, and Jacob White; and Elijah and Samuel Decker.
A funeral mass to celebrate Eric’s life will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022 at St. Luke Catholic Church, with Father Homer Blubaugh officiating. Burial will follow in St Luke’s Cemetery, with military rites by the Knox Co. Joint Veterans Council Honor Guard. Family and friends will be greeted at the church on Friday, Dec. 9th from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m., as well as prior to services on Saturday. The Fischer Funeral Home in Danville is handling arrangements. www.fischerfuneralhome.com
