Florence Mae Chanay

Mount Vernon - Florence Mae Chanay, 88, died Monday April 5, 2010 at the Knox Community Hospital.

She was born February 13, 1922 in Wadsworth to Leo and Florence (Ryland) Golz. She was a member of the Fredericktown First Church of God, and a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII. One of the highlights of her life was being a foster grandparent. She was a person who adored her family and took great pride in being a homemaker and raising her children. She taught them all to love the Lord with all her heart like she did.

Florence is survived by her children; Rev. Chick (Betty) Chanay, and Geraldine Dilly of Millersburg, Darcy (Karl) Blankenhorn and Harold (Margaret) Chanay, Jr. of Mount Vernon, and Lillian Wells of Danville, 14 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, a sister; Edith Miley, and a sister-in-law; Rose Golz both of Wadsworth, special close friends; Cheryl Rutherford and Don Regal, many nieces and nephews, and her Church of God family.

She was preceded in death by her husband; Harold B. Boyd Chanay, who died November 10, 1993, a brother; Jack Golz, sisters; Lucille Sonnanstien and Thelma Meeks, a son-in-law; Arlie Dilly, a grandson; Jeremy White, and a great grandson; Anthony Dean.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday April 9, 2010 at the First Church of God, 19535 Zolman Rd., Fredericktown. Pastor Richard Prater will officiate. Burial, with military rites by the Killbuck VFW Post 7079, will be in Killbuck Cemetery. Calling hours will be at the church on Thursday form 5-7 P.M., and one hour before the service Friday.
