DANVILLE- Clarence Eugene “Gene” Starner, 73, of Black Rd. and a lifelong Holmes Co. resident, died Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at his residence.
He was born Feb. 7, 1943 in Holmes Co. to the late Mary Starner. He was a bus driver for West Holmes School District for over 30 years, and a former employee of Richland, Monroe, and Knox Townships in Holmes Co. He also owned and operated a milk delivery truck for several years. He enjoyed camping, and wintering in Ridge Manor, FL.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Danville; a daughter, Gina (Gary) Scherer of Killbuck, three grandchildren, Drew, Logan & Calihan Scherer, all of Killbuck; two special step-granddaughters, Amanda Inverso and Alizabeth Colopy; a special aunt, Ruth Starner; five special friends, Shelly and Bobby Vertrees, Bob Gallion, Zach Inverso, and Ben Colopy; a nephew, Jesse Starner; as well as several cousins.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a son, Gregory Starner; and his grandparents, Ray & Clara Starner.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friday, July 22, 2016 at the Union Grove Church of Christ, 2135 TR 2 Killbuck, OH 44637, with Bob Hines officiating. Visitation is from 3:00 p.m. until service time. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery, and a meal will be provided at the church at the conclusion of services.
