Danville - Glen Hauger, 76, died Friday May 1, 2009 at the Knox Community Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born March 11, 1933 in Danville to C.D. Hauger and Audrey (Taylor) Hauger. Glen grew up in Danville and graduated from Danville High School in 1951, earning 7 Varsity letters in 2 sports. He was a member of the Danville United Methodist Church, and the Masonic Lodge, where he was past master of Lodge #546. He proudly served 4 years in the Air Force (1951-1955), and was stationed in Newfoundland in an Air Rescue Group.
He married Janice Staats Billow on December 22, 1956 at the Danville Methodist Church parsonage, with Rev. John Graham officiating. Glen was a journeyman machinist, and retired from Cooper Energy Services after 38 years. He also worked at Mansfield Sanitary, Pittsburgh Plate and Glass, and Banbury Lumber Co.
Glen was an avid golfer, successful Little League baseball coach, and enjoyed walking on the Florida beaches. He was a devoted fan of Danville High School sports, The Ohio State Buckeyes, and the Cleveland Indians, Browns, and Cavaliers. He was a loving and proud husband, father, grandfather, and brother.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years; Janice, his brother; Joe Hauger of Danville, 6 children; Mike (Chris) Billow of Danville, Gina (Jack) White of Mount Vernon, Marsha Hauger of Mount Vernon, Anita (Mike) Martin of Danville, Dwight Hauger of Danville, and Brenda Durbin of Dublin, grandchildren; Angela Baker, Vincent Billow, Jennifer Brecheisen, Bill White, Keith White, Julie Jones, Nicole Stelzer, Josh Martin, Alicia Byers, Joe Martin, and Grant Hauger, and 17 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Calling hours will be from 3 - 5:00 P.M. on Sunday May 3, at the Danville Methodist Church. A Masonic service will follow. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday May 6, 2009, at the Danville Methodist Church with Rev. Doug Sweet officiating. Burial, with military honors from the Knox County Joint Veterans Council, will follow in Workman Cemetery in Danville.
