COSHOCTON- Harlan Elmer “Mannie” Phillips, 89, died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017 at Walnut Grove Health & Rehabilitation in Coshocton, where he was a resident.

He was born Jan. 11, 1927 in Tiverton to the late Joseph Edward and Iva Mae (Cly) Phillips. He served as a Sargent in the U.S. Army from 1945-1946 in the South Pacific during WWII. He was an employee of Penn-Michigan, where he made milk cans until his retirement in 1988. He was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post #1330 in Coshocton. He enjoyed hunting, and spending time with his grandkids and watching as they grew up.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Alice (Keefer) Phillips of Coshocton, whom he married April 3, 1950; a daughter, Donna K. (David) Hughes of Coshocton; two grandchildren, David (Michelle) Hughes of Douglas, MA, and Misty L. Hughes (fiancé Dave Menefee) of Port Washington; twin great-granddaughters, Haylie Jean and Alexie K. Menefee; a brother, Robert (June) Phillips of Tuscarawas; a sister-in-law, Pat Phillips of Dothan, AL; and several nieces & nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Lucille Hart, Louise Keefer, and Sylvia G. Irwin; and four brothers, Charles, Alvie, Harold Dean, and William Phillips.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Jan. 6, 2017 at the Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw, with Pastor Sharon Kirch officiating. Burial will follow in Valley View Cemetery. Graveside military services will be conducted by the Coshocton County Joint Veterans Council. Visitation is one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. www.fischerfuneralhome.com
