WEST LAFAYETTE-Harold Devere Markel, 85, of Fairview St., died Saturday Oct. 15, 2011 at the Coshocton Co. Memorial Hospital.
He was born Sept. 26, 1926 in Beaverdale, PA to the late Kelly and Kathryn (Woods) Markel. He graduated from Transylvania Bible College, and ministered in Kentucky, with some time at the Bethany Orphanage. He worked for Clow Water Systems for 18 years. He spent most of his life as a painter, and was an avid bird watcher and fly fisher.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Tresa L. (Bradt) Markel, who he married June 14, 1952. He is also survived by his five children; Connie (Lanny) Gross of Zanesville, Elaine (Lance) Casey of West Lafayette, Timothy (Susan) Markel of Coshocton, Faith D'Ostroph of Demascus, and Silas (Judy) Markel of Keene, eight grandchildren; Ben (Rachel) Gross, Matthew (Michele) Gross, Sarelle Gross, April (Don) Riedel, Nicole Markel, Brooke (Bruce) Potts, and Dawn & Duane D'Ostroph, nine great-grandchildren and one expected, one brother, Floyd (Laura) Markel of Akron, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers; Kelly & Cecil Markel.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday Oct. 19, 2011 at the Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw with Pastors Roger McCreery & Douglas Clark officiating. Burial will follow in Darling Run Cemetery with graveside military rites conducted by the Coshocton Co. Joint Veterans Council.
