Hugh "Skip" Lawrence

KEENE- Hugh Franklin “Skip” Lawrence, 91, went home to be with the Lord surrounded by loving family on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2024 at Altercare of Coshocton.

He was born Jan. 15, 1933 in Coshocton to the late Althea Lauree Lawrence Darr. He graduated from Union High School in 1951, and served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955. He retired from Clow Water Systems in 1996.

Skip was one of the founders and a lifelong member of the Coshocton Co. Sportsman’s Association. There he taught youth hunter safety and helped with fishing derbies. He loved going to any auctions he could find, especially at Farmerstown every Tuesday, and several around Coshocton. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, gardening, mushroom hunting, and drinking coffee with his neighbors.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years who was the love of his life, Jean (Kanuckle) Lawrence of Keene, whom he married in Newcomerstown on Jan. 25, 1958; their children, Hugh (Michelle) Lawrence Jr. of Keene, and Cindy (Doug) Lawrence Masteller of Macedonia; granddaughters, Shelby (Josh) Schlupp, Delaney Masteller; grandsons, Scott and Tommy Masteller, and Jesse (Kristin) Lawrence; great-grandchildren, Briar, Layla & KJ Lawrence, Owen, Mable & Maisley Schlupp, and Rowan Masteller; two sisters, Wilma (Larry) Marlatt of Newcomerstown, and Janice Brooks of Tampa, FL; two brothers, Victor (Mary) Darr of Vermillion, and Bill (Eileen) Darr Newcomerstown; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Homer Lawrence; and his siblings, Paul, Gerald, Jim & Jerry Darr, and Marilyn Scott.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024 at Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw, with Pastor Sheila Kent officiating. Burial will follow in Keene Cemetery, with graveside military rites performed by the Coshocton Co. Joint Veterans Council Honor Guard.
