CENTERBURG- Ira Burton Workman, 101, a resident of Centerburg Pointe and formerly of Danville, passed away Sunday, May 27, 2012, at the nursing home.

He was born July 6, 1910, in Danville to the late Elmer and Rosa (Kemp) Workman. Ira and his wife, Violet (Davis), lived in the Danville area and shared many endeavors in their almost 74 years of married life. Ira raised turkeys and beef cattle, and later created and managed Lakeview Haven Nursing Home in the Danville area. He had been a member of the North Bend Church of the Brethren, and later became a member of the Mount Vernon Seventh Day Adventist Hill Church.

Ira and his wife were very involved in their community, helping numerous individuals. The many recipients of their generosity and mentoring were local, as well as national and world-wide.

He is survived by his daughters; Dalene Stull and Dixie (Juston) Waite, both of Danville, his granddaughters; Gretchen (Tim) Gerhardt Carr of Westerville, and Kindra Waite of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, three great-grandchildren; Harrison, Davis, and Maggie, his sister-in-law Helen Workman of Danville, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Violet, five brothers; Richard, Roscoe, Quincy, Omra, and Eldon, three sisters; Savilla, Sara, and Rosalie, and several brothers and sisters-in-law, as well as two nieces and a nephew.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 1, 2012, at the Fischer Funeral Home in Danville with Pastors Paul Boling, Edward Bartter, and Fred Shoemaker officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens. Calling hours are from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. www.fischerfuneralhome.com
