COSHOCTON- James Ralph Henry, 88, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, March 11, 2011.
He was born Aug. 29, 1922 in Coshocton to the late Ralph and Mona Belle (West) Henry. He married Clara "Kate" (Guthrie) Henry on April 23, 1945, who survives. He served during WWII in the 83rd Infantry Division of the United States Army, from 1942-1945. He landed on the beach at Normandy, and later received a Purple Heart Medal. He also received the American Theater Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon with one Bronze Star, the Good Conduct Medal, and the WWII Victory Medal. He was a life-member of the DAV and V.F.W. Post #1330. He attended the Coshocton Christian Tabernacle Church. Jim was a devoted New York Yankees fan, and he enjoyed football, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers. He also loved spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Kate Henry of Coshocton, a son, James E. (Linda) Henry, two daughters; Pat (Lewis) McCoy, and Cheryl (Lonnie) Gano, all of Coshocton, nine grandchildren; Jeanie (Jeff) Dovenbarger, James Henry, Jr., Keith Henry, Rick (Brenda) McCoy, Gary (Diane) McCoy, Bryan McCoy, and Bill Hess, all of Coshocton, James Hess of Akron, and Kimberly Sue (Grahm) Jones of Columbus, two step-grandchildren; Mike (Birdie) Gano of New Philadelphia, and Tom (Meg) Gano of Coshocton, thirteen great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren, two sisters; Donna Roberts and Betty Howell, and two brothers; John (Mariam) Henry and Joe Henry, all of Coshocton, and several nieces & nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters; Wanda Mellor, Dorothy Shroyer, and Mildred Brillhart, three brothers; Herb, Leo, & Donis Dean Henry, one grandchild and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at the Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw with Pastor Sonny Easterday officiating. Burial will follow in Canal Lewisville Cemetery, with graveside military rites performed by the Coshocton Co. Joint Veterans Council. Calling hours are from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, and until service time on Tuesday at the funeral home.
