WEST LIBERTY- Janet Lou (Craig) Dete, 84, a life-long resident of West Liberty, died unexpectedly and peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, January 25, 2022.
Janet was born on December 18, 1937 to John and Alice (Tamplin) Craig. She attended West Liberty High School, Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, the Ohio State University and Centre College in Danville, Kentucky.
On September 24, 1966, she married John Joseph Dete and they were blessed with the birth of their son John J. Dete, II. Over the years, she enjoyed her involvement with Daughters of the American Revolution, the Christian Woman's Organization, and the choir at St. Mary of the Woods in Russells Point.
Janet was a faithful wife, a fun-loving mother and grandmother and a devoted Christian. When she was younger, she enjoyed horseback riding, skiing and travelling. It was her love for riding horses that took her to her job at the Frontier Nursing Service in Kentucky, where she worked as a midwife assistant travelling by horseback to provide maternity and healthcare to those living in the remote regions of South-Eastern Kentucky.
She loved to sit on her side porch, watch the hummingbirds and enjoy nature. When you would visit and it was time to leave, she would give the biggest of hugs, bid you “Cheerio" and a wave from the porch as you drove down the driveway.
In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by her loving husband, as well as her sister, Jo Ellen Jackson, with whom she co-owned Craig's Elevator for many years.
She's survived by her son "JJ" (Kelly); her grand-daughters, Joslyn and Jillian, who made her so very proud; Buster, her faithful canine companion; as well as many other special family members, neighbors and friends.
Private services will be held in Glenmont, Ohio with burial at St. Peter & Paul Cemetery. Fischer Funeral Home in Danville is assisting the family with the arrangements. Video of the services will be available on Janet’s obituary page at the funeral home website, www.fischerfuneralhome.com.
Those wishing to express sympathy are asked to consider making a donation to their favorite charity or through a simple act of patience or kindness in her memory.
