Janice J. Tish

       COSHOCTON- Janice J. (Fortune) Tish, 83, passed away Monday, Sept. 7, 2026 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

       She was born July 7, 1943 in Millersburg to the late Marion and Maxine (Jones) Fortune. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and cherished member of her family whose presence brought laughter, comfort, and countless memories to those who knew and loved her.

       Janice shared nearly 67 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Bernard E. Tish, whom she lovingly called “Hun.” They were joined in marriage on Oct. 6, 1959, and together they built a lifetime of memories, family traditions, laughter, and love. Through nearly seven decades of life side by side, Bernard was Janice’s partner, companion, and the person who shared so many of life’s ordinary and extraordinary moments with her.

       In fact, Janice and Bernard were quite the team. Janice never went anywhere without him—not only because she loved having him by her side, but because she never learned how to drive! So, wherever Janice needed to go, Bernard was behind the wheel. It became just another part of the life they shared together, and one of the many things her family will always remember and smile about.

       Janice found joy in the simple things in life. She loved taking walks, getting lost in a good book, and working through her puzzle books. She especially treasured time with her grandchildren, who brought a special kind of happiness to her life. Her family was her greatest source of pride, and she loved nothing more than visiting with them, sharing stories, laughing together, and simply being surrounded by the people she loved.

       Janice enjoyed trips to Amish Country, where she could slow down and enjoy the scenery, familiar sights, and time with the people she loved. She also loved sitting on the porch, enjoying quiet moments and watching the world go by. And beside her was often her beloved dog, Bella, a faithful companion who brought her plenty of love and companionship.

       Those who knew Janice will remember her wonderful sense of humor and her ability to make people laugh. She had a personality all her own and was never afraid to say exactly what she thought. She also wasn't particularly fond of change. If something was working just fine the way it was, Janice saw no reason to change it! She found comfort in her routines, her favorite places, and, most of all, the people she loved.

       More than anything, Janice loved her husband, her children, and her grandchildren. She treasured family visits and the ordinary moments that became extraordinary memories simply because they were shared together. Though she may no longer be with us, her family will carry her with them always.

       After nearly 67 years together, Janice leaves behind not only a family who adored her, but a lifetime of memories with the man she called “Hun.” Their story was one of love, commitment, laughter, and a life built together—one day at a time.

       Janice leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, family traditions, and memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Her family will miss her voice, her humor, her familiar ways, and all those little things that made her uniquely Janice.

       Though she may no longer be sitting on the porch, taking her walks, working on a puzzle book, visiting with family, or enjoying time with her beloved Bella, her greatest love—her family—will carry her with them always.

       And somewhere, we hope, she is still reminding “Hun” that things were perfectly fine the way they were—and probably telling him where she wanted to go next.

       Janice was deeply loved, fiercely cherished, and will never be forgotten by the family she leaves behind, which includes her husband, Bernard Tish of Coshocton; two daughters, Tammy (Ben) Rizer of Coshocton, and Kelly Jones of Coshocton; twelve grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Samuel (Bonnie) Fortune of Conesville, and Richard (Lois) Fortune of Arkansas; a son-in-law, Jason Taylor of Stovertown; a sister-in-law, Cheryl Fortune of West Lafayette; and several nieces and nephews.

       In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jacquelyn R. Taylor; two brothers, Jay and Arlie Fortune; and a sister, Marilyn Van Meter.

       A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, 2026 at South Lawn Cemetery, with Pastor Jim Gross officiating. Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw is handling arrangements. FischerFuneralHome.com
