Newark – Jerald R. Walters, 70, passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at the Riverside Methodist Hospital.
He was born in Mount Vernon on February 5, 1954 to M. Roy Walters, who preceded him in death, and Martha (Alexander) Walters. He is survived by his mother, Martha Walters; his two brothers, Jim (Cindy) Walters, and Jeff (Brenda) Walters; three nieces, Rebecca, Melissa, and Michelle; a nephew, Justin; four grandnieces, Mia, Lydia, Lilly, and Celeste; and a grandnephew, Dallas.
Jerald graduated from River View High School in 1972 and earned a Bachelors degree in Industrial Engineering at the University of Dayton. After college, he worked as an industrial engineer for several major tire manufactures, including Dayton Tire and Firestone. Before retiring, he was an engineer for the U.S Postal Service.
Civil War re-enacting was his favorite hobby for over 30 years. He participated in many battles and events representing Phillip Conkle, his great-great grandfather who was a Veteran of the conflict. Over the course of his life he lived in many places and had many friends. He loved to travel and explore every new place he called home. He had a lifelong interest in history, nature, and learning in general. He enjoyed touring museums and passing along interesting facts that most people overlooked or took for granted.
He cherished his family and supported their achievements wholeheartedly. He thoughtfully kept in touch with birthday and Valentine’s Day cards, and letters. He will be fondly remembered always.
A funeral service will be held at noon on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at the Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw. Pastor Ben McKinstry will officiate. Burial will follow in New Castle Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until service time.
