Danville - John Charles Durbin, 76, died Friday May 22, 2015 at the Riverside Methodist Hospital.
He was born February 2, 1939 in Brinkhaven, to the late Christopher F. and Johanna (Schleyer) Durbin. He was a 1957 graduate of Danville High School where he played football, basketball, and ran track. He joined Continental Can Company, which later became American National Can Co., in 1958 and worked in the rewind department. He retired from there after 40 years of service.
John married Patty Riley on December 20, 1958. Together they attended the Danville United Methodist Church. He lived in the Danville area all of his life. Those who knew him are aware of his passion and love for the game of golf. He also enjoyed watching all sporting events on TV.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patty Durbin, son, J. Mitchell (Karen) Durbin of Danville, daughter, A. Christine (Neil) Williams of Howard, 3 grandsons; Tyler Durbin, and Jared Nyhart both of Columbus, and Russell Williams of Howard, sisters; Lucy (Charles) Koelbl of Fredericktown, and Betty Ann Selby of Columbus, brother, Peter (Phyllis) Durbin of Danville, sister-in-law, Betty L. Durbin of Danville, brother-in-law, Larry (Mahala) Riley of Ashland, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by brothers; Frederick J., and Steven M. Durbin, sister, Mary Lou Durbin, and brother-in-law, Thomas Selby.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27 at the Danville United Methodist Church on Market St. Rev. Mary Murtha will officiate. Burial will follow in Workman Cemetery. Calling hours will be held at the church from 5-8 on Tuesday evening.
