WARSAW- John Douglas Flexter, 68, of Warsaw, Ohio passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2016.
John was born on July 9, 1948 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to Lester and Beulah (Zimmerman) Flexter.
He is survived by his beloved wife Marilyn Lea Roberts; his children William (Deanna), Tracey (Jason), Treva (Debbie), and Mark(Terri); his grandchildren Nicole and Jeremy; brother Eugene and wife Dolores, nephew Marty (Kim), predeceased by niece Pam; brother Glen and wife Barbara, nephew Keith, niece Kellye (Kenny),
John proudly served our country as a Marine, serving three tours in Vietnam. He enlisted in 1966 and served with the H & S Company, the 5th MP Battalion, the 5th Marine Division (Rein) FMF, 3rd Division, and First Company 9th Platoon, the Walking Dead. He earned many honors including the Purple Heart with One Star (2nd award) (earned while saving the lives of other soldiers), the Combat Action Ribbon, The Presidential Unit Citation, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnamese Service Medal with Three Stars, and the Vietnamese Campaign Medal with Device. He was Honorably Discharged in 1969 with the rank of Sergeant.
John was a devoted family man, avid outdoorsman, computer gamer, and told great stories with wit and humor. His generous and warm nature made sure that he never met a stranger. He will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends.
