DANVILLE- John Robert Groseclose, 88, of Shadley Valley Rd., died Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Country Court in Mt. Vernon.
He was born June 8, 1925 in Fowler, IN to the late Walter and Bertie (Dix) Groseclose. He was a WWII veteran, having served in the US Army from 1943-1946. He married Patty A. (White) Groseclose on Oct. 11, 1947. Having left high school to serve in the war, he received his GED later in life from Loudonville High School. He retired from the former Cooper-Bessemer/ Rolls Royce Company as a machinist. He operated several businesses throughout his life in fields such as lapidary, woodwork, upholstery, printing, and rabbit farming. He showed his crafts in many festivals and fairs, including the Utica Ice Cream Festival for 25 years. He enjoyed the outdoors, never met a stranger in his life, and always had a smile on his face.
He is survived by three children; John A. Groseclose of Howard, Lee Ann McManis of Mt. Vernon, and James D. Groseclose of Mt. Vernon, four grandchildren; Shawn Groseclose, Patty L. Kuntz, Marty Groseclose, and Kirk McManis, six great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Juanita Groseclose, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers; Roger, Harley, William Guy, Charles, and Frank Groseclose, and a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Groseclose.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 24, 2014 at the Fischer Funeral Home in Danville with Dave Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens with graveside military services conducted by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council. Calling hours are from 4-7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. www.fischerfuneralhome.com
