WALHONDING - John William Hanes, 78, of New Guilford Road died Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at his residence.
He was born March 4, 1934 in Green County to the late William Andrew and Dorothy E. (Henger) Hanes.
He was retired from Columbia Gas Transmission and worked in the oil fields all his life. He was a member of the New Guilford United Methodist Church, member & past master of Wakatomika Lodge #108 F & AM, member of the Prospectors Assn. of America, Life member of the NRA, a former member of the Union Grange at Bladensburg, and a member of the Walhonding Rube Band. John thoroughly loved hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Imogene (Mikesell) Hanes, whom he married March 17, 1956. Also surviving is a son, Timothy (Linda) Hanes of Dublin. Two daughters, Terri (John) Barber of Utica, and Tina Anderson of Mount Vernon. Two granddaughters, Heidi & Kyra Hanes. Two sisters, Ruth Ann (Don) Mason of Warsaw and Joy (Bill) Crawford of Coshocton. A niece, Ruth Staley of Dayton, TX and several other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Naomi Lelievre and a brother, Everett Hanes.
Visitation is Friday, Jan. 18, 2013 from 1-3 & 6-8 pm at the Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw. A Masonic memorial service will be held Friday evening a 7:45 pm at the funeral home. There will be a private graveside service on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013 at the New Guilford Cemetery, with Rev. Monica Huntsman officiating.
