Danville- Judith Christine "Judy" Klavins, 69, of Plum St., died Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009 at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
She was born May 29, 1940 in Cleveland to the late George R. and Cora (Dunham) Young. She married Juris V. Klavins on Aug. 26, 1961, who preceded her in death on Aug. 6, 2002. Judy, a long time resident of Knox County, began her banking career after graduating from the Mount Vernon Business School in 1960 and retired after an illustrious career as a Sr. Vice President/Loan Officer/Branch Manager from the Killbuck Savings Bank Co. in April of 2005. She had an incredible work ethic that was visible to all who met her. She was a much respected, selfless, "classy lady" who truly touched the hearts of all who met her. She believed that the most important things in life were faith, family and friends. Although she served on many boards she was especially proud of her work with Hospice of Knox County.
Judy absolutely adored her family and was the beloved grandmother to five grandchildren, Bryson, Chelsey, Anna, Mallory and Lauren. She dearly loved traveling and had fond memories of her vacations to the ocean.
Over the years, Judy has served or been a member with; Habitat for Humanity, Chamber of Commerce, Hospice of Knox County (Board President), Rotary of Knox County, Danville Fire Department (Festival Committee), Knox County Board of Realtors (member/worked golf outing), Danville Merchants Association, Knox County Chamber of Commerce (Ambassador), Mt. Vernon Nazarene President's Council, Board Member Knox County Business Advisory, Danville United Methodist Church, Knox County Community Concert Association, Board Member of Sanctuary Community Action/Interchurch, Danville Athletic Booster, East Knox Boosters, Danville 200 Club, Knox Chapter 236, Ohio Eastern Stars, Danville Lions Club,
Knox Community Foundation Board, Owl Creek Conservatory, Knox County Education Service Center Board, Knox County Career Center Board of Education, and the Knox Community Hospital Foundation Board.
Judy was the proud recipient of the Paul Slaughter Award and the International Athena Award.
She is survived by two daughters; Julie Christine (David) Morehead of Mansfield, and Jennifer Ann (Barry) Egan of Marion, five grandchildren; Chelsey & Mallory Egan, Lauren Beard, and Anna & Bryson Morehead, and a special friend, Don Garvic.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a sister, Doris Payne.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009 at the Danville United Methodist Church with Rev. Jason Humble officiating. Interment will follow in Workman Cemetery. Calling hours are from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the church, and until service time on Thursday.
