Leo D. Bender

COSHOCTON- Leo Dale Bender, 81, a resident of Coshocton Health and Rehab and formerly of West Lafayette, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010 at the Coshocton County Memorial Hospital.

He was born April 10, 1929 in Coshocton Co. to the late Harvey and Lilly (Dwitt) Bender. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1954-1956. He was a former employee of the Stone Container Corporation, and he was a horse breeder and trainer. He enjoyed hunting, and also helping kids, especially during his time as a 4-H Ambassador.


He is survived by two sons; Greg (Linda) Bender of North Lawrence, and Ronnie (Debbie) Bender of Coshocton, three daughters; Lisa (Chad) Elliott of Coshocton, Linda (Don) Qualls of Mt. Vernon, and Joyce (Rusty) Rine of Mt. Vernon, a step-son, Kurt (Dawn) Anderson of Coshocton, a step-daughter, Laura (Mike) Lowe of West Lafayette, fifteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and his caregivers; Kay Bender & Rick Swiger of West Lafayette.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters; Beatrice Swartz and Jean Tidball.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010 at the Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw with Pastor Ron Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Chapel Cemetery, with graveside military rites conducted by the Coshocton County Joint Veterans Council. Calling hours are from 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
