Leon B. Smith

October 21, 1920 — December 28, 2009

DANVILLE - Leon Bynon Smith, 89, of Neil Road died Dec. 28, 2009 at his residence.

He was born Oct. 21, 1920 in St. Mary's, WV to the late Herbert Creed and Dorothy Rose (Kelly) Smith.

Leon was retired having worked for B L Motor Frieght for 35 years, the Danville Local Schools, and Pinkerton Security. He was a member of the Teamsters Union. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of the DAV in Mount Vernon.

He is survived by five daughters, Kay (Roger) Sloan of Riverside, OH, Joyce (Bob) Boling of Mount Vernon, Ann Smith of Apple Valley, Jane Durbin and Sue Dunagan both of Danville. A son, Jim
(Barb) Smith of Danville. 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Two sisters, Carolyn Clark of Jacksonville, FL and Betty Wallace of Knoxville, TN. A sister-in-law, Margie Smith of Knoxville, TN.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Mattie (Thomas) Smith, whom he married July 25, 1941, she died Jan. 5, 2007. He was also preceded in death by a son, Richard Lee Smith, a grandson, David Durbin, a great granddaughter, Ashley Taylor Mae Crowner, a son-in-law, David Dunagan, three sisters, Phyllis VanWinkle, Barbara Campbell, & Dottie Lowery, and two brothers, John & Fred Smith.

There will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be held Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Union Hill Cemetery in Coshocton County with Pastor Jason Humble officiating. Graveside military services will be conducted by the Coshocton County Joint Veterans Council.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Danville Public Library 512 S. Market St. Danville, OH 43014 or the Eastern Knox County Joint Fire District (EKCJFD) PO Box 526 Danville, OH 43014.
