CONESVILLE- Lois Ellen (Mowery) King of Conesville, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at the age of 75, at Ohio’s Hospice of Central Ohio in Newark. Her life was tragically cut short due to injuries sustained in a vehicular collision at the intersection of Ohio State Route 621 and U.S. Highway 36.
Born on April 25, 1950, Lois was raised on Mowery's Twin Rivers dairy farm, where she developed the strong work ethic and servant’s heart that would define her life. She was an active member of 4-H and a 1968 graduate of River View High School. Inspired by her aunt, she enrolled in the Good Samaritan School of Nursing and earned her Registered Nurse certification in 1971.
Lois began her nursing career as a surgical nurse at Good Samaritan Medical Center (Genesis) in Zanesville, followed by time working in the intensive care unit at Coshocton Memorial Hospital. She later devoted over 25 years to Coshocton Health and Rehabilitation Center (Roscoe Gardens Skilled Nursing & Rehab), retiring in 2013 as Director of Nursing. Her care and compassion touched countless lives through her decades of service.
She married G. Dale King, with whom she shared 50 years of marriage, and together they raised three children, Amanda (Tommy) Lovingood of Knoxville, Tennessee, Benjamin (Kelly) King of Orrville, and Casey (Ashley) King of Granville. Her grandchildren—Abigail, Grace, June, Corwin, Liliana, and Leonidas—were the center of her world. Known lovingly to them as “Gammy,” Lois was deeply committed to their lives and their happiness.
Lois was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church and, since 1972, an active congregant at Conesville United Methodist Church, where she and Dale enjoyed the fellowship of many dear friends. She devoted herself to her church community, her family, and to anyone in need—always ready with a warm meal, a listening ear, or a steady hand.
A gifted seamstress and quilter, Lois enjoyed a wide variety of crafting hobbies. She was also an exceptional cook and baker, an avid gardener, and a quiet but constant giver. She advocated for donating blood and took great pride in contributing regularly to the American Red Cross. Whether caring for older relatives, nurturing the youngest generation, or helping strangers, Lois lived a life of unmatched generosity. Her ability to offer kindness without judgment made her a light in her community and an example to all who knew her.
In addition to her children and grandchildren, she is survived by her brother Walter (Lisa) Mowery of Coshocton; sisters, Carol Bookless and JoAnn Hennen of Coshocton; father-in-law, Glenn W. King of Conesville; sisters-in-law, Linda (Henry) Cerceo of Charleston, South Carolina, and Vickie (Tom) Kobel of Coshocton; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Dale (2022); her parents, Robert and June Mowery; her sister, Brenda Mowery; her niece, Carrie Gaskill; her great-nephew, Evan Bradford/Gaskill; and her mother-in-law, June King.
A memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2025 at Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw, with Rev. Jeff Chapin & Rev. Carl Schaefer officiating. The Coshocton Co. Nightingale Honor Guard will also pay tribute to Lois’s service as a nurse. Private interment will take place at a later date. Visitation is on Tuesday, June 17th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. FischerFuneralHome.com
