Danville- Louis Arthur Gardner, 95, of Mickley St., died Sunday, August 21, 2011 at Emeritus Hillen Vale in Mt. Vernon.
He was born Sept. 21, 1915 in Howard to the late Edward L. and Mary F. (Weaver) Gardner. He was born and raised on his family's farm, where he lived and worked for over 80 years. He was a hard-worker and a great provider for his family, who he loved to spend time with. He was a big supporter of Ohio State athletics, and was an avid golfer and bridge player. He was a member of the St. Luke Catholic Church, was a 3rd degree Knight of Columbus, and was a member of the Archeological Society.
He is survived by his wife, Martha "Polly" Gardner of Danville, who he married Oct. 21, 1944. Also surviving is a son, Edward (Becky) Gardner of Howard, three daughters; Saundra Rowland of Columbus, Jane (Mike) Byles of Howard, and Christine (Mike) Billow of Danville, ten grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and several nieces & nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Virgilia Arnold and Anna Walters, and three brothers; Cletus, Carl, & Frank Gardner.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2011 at the St. Luke Catholic Church in Danville with Rev. F. Richard Snoke officiating. Burial will follow in St. Luke Cemetery. Visitation is from 9:30-11:00 a.m. at the church. The Fischer Funeral Home in Danville is handling arrangements.
