Mount Vernon

Mount Vernon – Helen Louise Samples, formerly of Danville, passed away April 17, 2023 at the Country Court Retirement Center.

Louise was born on June 30, 1928 to Lewie Veatch and Alice (Henwood) Veatch.  Louise graduated from Howard High School in 1946 and went on to attend beauty school with her future sister-in-law, Ruth Samples.  She opened her own beauty shop in Danville in 1952 after marrying the love of her life, Max Samples, on May 17, 1952. For 59 years, they enjoyed family, friends, travel, and mostly time together.

Besides being devoted to Max, Louise also enjoyed her work and her customers. She cut hair for over 30 years in Danville and then retired to spend more time with Max. During her years of retirement, she shared her gift for cooking and flower arranging with her church family at Danville Grace Brethren and enjoyed helping out at the Danville Interchurch. Louise held her family in high regard and will be missed by those she leaves behind.

Among them are her brother, Dale (Polly) Veatch, sisters-in-law, Margie Samples and Patsy Samples, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Max, her sisters, Irene McMillan, and Sharon King, and her brothers-in-law, Charles, Don, Bob, Bill, and Ron Samples.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 22, at the Fischer Funeral Home in Danville. Burial will follow at Workman Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time.
