Danville- Lucille Wimmer Whitney, deeply beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, went to be with the Lord Thursday, April 3, 2008. Lucille was born July 11, 1910 in Parker, South Dakota to Ola and Walter Wimmer. She moved to Danville, a village which she loved dearly, as a young girl and served the community for many years as a member of the Danville Church of Christ. She attended Ashland University and taught school for a brief period. On May 13, 1931, Lucille married Thomas Whitney and embarked on an active and rewarding life as a wife and mother. She is survived by her sons, Thomas Jr. (Karen), Charles (Rita), her granddaughters, Rachel (David) Lashley and Brittany Whitney, her grandson, Timothy (Rebekah) Whitney, her great-grandsons, Ian Lashley, Nathan Whitney, Samuel Whitney and Logan Whitney, her nieces, Phyllis K. Carl, Kristine Smith, Barbara Bennett and Katherine Bennett, her nephews, Phillip Carl and Jim Stump, a special double-cousin, Helen Davis, a dear friend, Esther Yoder and a highly treasured group of friends who enriched her life daily. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sisters, Velma Carl, Ardelle Stump and Leola Mae Bennett, her niece, Diane Staley, and her great-niece, Kathy Carl. Admired by all who knew her, Lucille was a woman celebrated for her sharp wit, steadfast determination, generous spirit, and pies so scrumptious they leave behind a legacy of their own. Her life epitomized the beauty of self-sacrificing love and her sparkling personality added joy to all occasions. She was a woman who took a very detailed interest in the lives of her family, instilling in them an inherent sense of personal worth. Her children and grandchildren will greatly miss their daily chats with this incredibly special woman. Indeed, Lucille's passing leaves a void in her family that can only be filled by the knowledge of her everlasting life in the arms of her Savior. Friends and family may call at the Danville Church of Christ, located at 15961 Danville Jelloway Rd, on Sunday afternoon from 2-4. Funeral services will also be held at the church on Monday at 1pm, with Bro. Gene Lilly officiating.
