HOWARD - Mabel Grace Divan, 82, of Coshocton Road died Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at the Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.
She was born September 10, 1928 in Fresno to the late Edward and Carrie (Talbot) Geerts.
Mabel was a homemaker and along with her husband were the owner/operators of the Howard Elevator for 20 years. She was a 50+year member and very active in the Howard United Methodist Church. Mabel attended 12 years of school in Fresno without missing a single day of school. She graduated from Fresno High School in 1946. She was a member and past president of the Rake and Hoe Garden Club in Howard. She always enjoyed making cookies and giving them away to family and friends.
She is survived by a daughter, Marilyn (Paul) Smith of Fredericktown. Two sons, Terry (Mary) Divan of Mount Vernon and Roger (Beth) Divan of Lithopolis. Seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A sister, Anna Mae (Edward) Cox of Conesville. Two sisters-in-law, Eloise Shrimplin of Warsaw and Dorothy Hulcher of North Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emory A. Divan, who she married July 6, 1947, he died October 19, 2000. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Kay Divan, a son, Dan A. Divan, and a sister, Flora Hartsock.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the Fischer Funeral Home 412 E. Main St., Warsaw, with Pastor Lee Cubie officiating. Burial will be in the Valley View Cemetery at Warsaw. Visitation is one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
