Mabel J. Mizer

MOUNT VERNON – Mabel J. Mizer, 93, a resident of the County Club Nursing Center died Saturday, August 6, 2016 at the Center.

She was born Nov. 1, 1922 at home in Buckeye City to the late Walter E. and Ruth L. (Eley) Dennis and delivered by the late Dr. Harmer.

Mabel worked at Webers Hall in Danville for the World War II effort. She was a Public Accountant having worked for 15 years for Turner, Burris, & Wolf Accounting in Mount Vernon and was self employed at Mizer’s Accounting in Danville. She always enjoyed bookkeeping and doing taxes. She was a member of the National Society of Public Accountants from 1974-1997. A lifelong member and former officer of the Flat Run Grange. A member of the Heart of Ohio Good Sam Camping Club and the Mohecan Saddle Club. Mabel always enjoyed sewing which she learned at age 5 from Aunt Biney. She was a 4-H Club advisor for the Mod Stitchers and taught many others to sew. She was an excellent cook and baker. She loved gardening, canning, baking, crocheting, and reading. She was a member of the former Presbyterian Church at Millwood.

She is survived by her son, Arthur (Anne) Mizer of Mount Vernon. She was a beloved grandmother to two grandchildren, Scott (Grace) Mizer and Mashawn (Kyle) Stroh of Westerville. Two great granddaughters, Jessica and Jansen Stroh. A sister, Dollie Stumbaugh of Wooster a brother, William Dennis of Howard, and a sister-in-law, Nerina Dennis of Rochelle, IL.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Mizer, whom she married June 22, 1940, he died April 3, 1997. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Marjorie Nyhart Richert of Newark and two brothers, Harold Dennis of Danville and Robert Dennis of Rochelle, IL.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 11, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fischer Funeral Home in Danville with Pastor Denise Marikis officiating. Burial will follow in the Valley Cemetery. Visitation is from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Thursday. www.fischerfuneralhome.com
