Mount Vernon - Marjorie Mae (Coggins) Workman, 93, of Mount Vernon, passed away Friday morning January 30, 2009 at Summerville at HillenVale.
She was born April 17, 1915 in Newcastle, daughter of Pascal and Audra (Busenburg) Coggins. Marjorie was a member of the Danville United Methodist Church and also attended the Gay St. United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon. She graduated from Dalton High School in Dalton, OH, Kent Normal School in Kent, and the Ohio University at Zanesville. She retired after 30 years of teaching in the Howard and Danville Elementary Schools.
Marjorie began her career in a one-room school house on Chestnut Ridge in Knox County. She was a member of the Rake and Hoe Garden Club, the Danville United Methodist Women, the American Legion Auxiliary of Danville, and the Knox County Retired Teachers Association.
She is survived by, and a loving and devoted mother to, Peggy (Richard ) Mavis, Betsy Workman, and Jim (Leah) Workman all of Mount Vernon, and Susan (Michael) Gromet of Napa, CA, grandmother to Jennifer (Edward) Westerhide of Newark, Julie (Larry) Mavis of Caledonia, MI, Audra Kalfass of San Francisco, CA, Naomi (Josh) Shaw of Marysville, and Jon Workman of Hilliard, and a great-grandmother to Jack and Lauren Westerhide of Newark.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harker Workman, and her brother, John Coggins.
There will be no calling hours and a private funeral service, officiated by Pastor Doug Sweet, will be celebrated with the family. Burial will follow in the Workman Cemetery in Danville. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Knox County, 17700 Coshocton Rd., Mount Vernon, 43050.
